One of the best things I love about being an admin of the Facebook group Pet-Friendly Topics in Manila is seeing firsthand how members generously share their personal experiences and detailed information about pet-friendly establishments they’ve visited. From cafes and restaurants to hotels and parks, these stories don’t just highlight where our furry friends are welcome—they also serve as a reliable guide for other pet lovers looking for trusted, real-life recommendations. This sense of community and shared knowledge makes finding pet-friendly places in Manila easier, more enjoyable, and filled with authentic insights.
In this article, I’ll be sharing Leslie Chan’s personal staycation review when she, her family, and their pets went to Baguio for a relaxing getaway at Lazy Dog Homestay. Leslie’s detailed experience offers a genuine glimpse of what it’s like to stay in this pet-friendly accommodation, from the amenities to the overall atmosphere. After her story, I’ve also included 20 questions she answered that highlight everything you need to know about their stay—perfect for pet owners considering Lazy Dog Homestay for their next Baguio trip.
1. May we know how did you learn about Lazydog Homestay? Was it recommended by a friend or discovered randomly online? I did my research & I searched online through groups as well, looking for pet parents who have booked their stays particularly at Baguio. I was very specific as to what I was looking for --- pet friendly, and can cater to a large group of 9. Lazydog Homestay came up every so often, and when I looked at their page, there was nothing but all positive reviews.
2. How many night/s) did you stay and how much did you pay? We stayed for 3 days, 2 nights. We paid P30k. We negotiated this rate since we booked their place at an off peak season.
3. Is the location accessible by public transport or need to take Angkas or Grab? Yes, when you walk down their road, there were a lot of taxis that passed by. I do not know exactly how to commute but there were a lot of public transport available.
4. May we know why you choose to stay here despite the many accommodation choices in Baguio? The pictures were everything! It looked so cozy and warm. Also their reviews on their page convinced me that this is the perfect place for us --- could fit all 9 of us, completely pet friendly, ZERO pet fees, no size/breed restrictions, and best of all, they had so many freebies!
5. Did you book it direct on their website or social media accounts or did you book it on booking sites like Agoda? For how many people did you book and for how many dogs? I messaged their official FB page. And negotiated there too. We were 9 humans, 2 small dogs and a cat.
6. What is the Lazy Dog Homestay's vibe? Did you feel like you could truly relax with your pet there, or were there a lot of restrictions? No restrictions except for the part where I think at around 10pm, you have to keep your noise at a minimum. The whole place is so warm, chill, and very homey.
7. Your pet is a part of the family—did the place have any little touches, like a water bowl outside or a designated spot, that showed they really get pet parents? Yes the whole place is completely pet friendly. There were bowls for your pet's food or water. And they hung little poop bag holders at strategic parts of the house. They even have a mini "grocery" part where you can buy diapers, treats for your dogs. Pet diapers are required for the dogs, by the way.
8. In what way you think this place is safe for pets? May gate ba sila na close 24/7 and na-oopen lang by humqn intervention? Definitely 100% secured! Their doors are locked and can only be opened by a smart lock system.
9. Are pets allowed in all parts of this homestay? Yes definitely!
10. Did the owners give you any local Baguio tips for pet-friendly cafes or walking spots that were actually good? I am no stranger to Baguio though so I didn't need to ask the owner for this. In fact, we went up to Baguio to attend to some business we needed for the properties we own at Baguio and La Trinidad. We have been going up to Baguio ever since the 80's.
11. Compared to other places you've traveled with your pet, what's the one thing Lazy Dog won about being pet-friendly? That they are completely pet friendly! No size/ breed restrictions. Mindful furniture for the pets like pet beds, pet houses, and even prepared bowls and poop bags. I have never experienced a place that is so thoughtful and mindful for the needs that every pet parent could have.
12. The place looks charming and rustic in the photos. Which area of the homestay—maybe the kitchen, a porch, or the common area—did you spend the most time in, and why was it so relaxing? Stayed most of the time at their living room area which flows freely into their dining and kitchen area. The entire first floor had so much to offer --- play station, tv to watch netflix, prime, disney, a projector as well. There was a small library nook under the stairs, and beside it were shelves of board games! All while you can make yourself a nice cup of tea, a warm cup of coffee, or be awakened by their own concoction of kombucha tea. We also enjoyed buckets of free popcorn, mixing in their free cheese, bbq, sourcream flavors!
13. Tell me about the kitchen setup. Since you cook, was it easy to access and share with other guests? Did it actually feel like a family kitchen? Yes we really enjoyed our cooking there. There were so many freebies that we even didn't have to cook our own grocery bought items. At one breakfast, we just cooked our own rice, some pieces of chicken nuggets and the rest came from Lazydog --- dried fish like tuyo, danggit, and paired all those with sunny side up eggs which were all free!
14. When you first arrived and the owner greeted you, did it feel more like a formal check-in, or like being welcomed home? When we first arrived, the owner's 2 lady staff were the ones who oriented us, did a mini quick tour and left us with the house rules as well. The owner came a day after and introduced himself, and welcomed us so warmly as well.
15. What's the best time of day at Lazy Dog Homestay? Like, a morning coffee moment or an evening chill session? Oh my! Anytime of the day, literally. But I guess because of the warm lighting that sets the ambience, combined with the cold Baguio air, nights at Lazydog left us completely impressed.
16. If someone was traveling with a family (including kids), is this a spot where everyone could find a comfortable corner? Yes definitely! Everyone would surely enjoy their stay there. I guarantee this! ♥️
17. Did you ever interact with other guests? Was there a natural sense of community, or was it more private? Since we rented the entire house, we were the only guests allowed. The owner also had a food business beside Lazydog --- Craftburgers. At one dinnertime, we ordered from them & food was delivered to the house. So there were staff and other customers too close by, but none of them were intrusive into our privacy.
18. Okay, let's talk about the owner's legendary generosity! Getting things like cooking oil, spices, and a kilo of strawberries—what's your favorite story about the owner just being super nice? With all the generous offerings of free vegetables, fruits, eggs, dried fish, coffee etc., I learned these were all bought from the local producers, farmers, in support of their livelihood. Also, Jason (the owner) is an active advocate, volunteer for their local animal welfare organization, the "Furvent Animal Rescue and Advocacy. In fact, even their rescues are all fed with these local vegetables.
19. Owners stay nearby or inside the accommodation and just separate rooms? I have no idea where he and his staff live, but definitely not inside the property. They are very convenient to reach --- just a DM actually!
20. The owner sounds like a super host. Was there ever anything you needed that they went above and beyond to help you with? Their staff came over everyday to help clean up! They carried out our trash, cleaned and mopped the floors, cleaned out the bathrooms. It was like having a personal housekeeping!
21. Summing it all up: The comfort, the pets, the freebies... Did you leave feeling like you got amazing value for your money? Definitely. The hospitality was impeccable. The service, care, and kindness shown by Jason and his staff were flawless, and beyond reproach.
22. Is there any pet fee? None!!!! That's the best part!!!!! Also, no size/breed restriction whatsoever!!!!
23. Can you tell me how accessible this is to Baguio's famous landmarks? It's pretty accessible. There were a lot of taxis, you can book a grab taxi. Or ride along the jeepneys. We drove going there, so it didn't really matter to me how distant or near this was. But I can say, it's pretty much accessible.
25. Are there any questions that we could have asked that we haven't about this homestay? Please share away 🙂 Out of all the hotels, airbnbs, resorts we stayed at, this tops the list. Like I said in my review of Lazydog, this place is a rare breed. ♥️
