Pahiyas Festival Tour Package 2013

According to Wikipedia, the Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon is held in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. It is an annual observation in thanksgiving for abundant harvests. Quezon folk decorate their homes with the choicest produce; they string fruits and vegetables together and make the “kiping,” the traditional Pahiyas décor of many colors. These are leaf-shaped wafers of rice makeup and looks like Spanish tacos; these are used to liven up halls and walls, and more craftily turned into arangya (chandeliers) that lighten up the town on fiesta night itself.

Building a Culture of Entrepreneurship in the Philippines

Few weeks ago, out of nowhere I posted this status below on Facebook. I tagged influential entities in the name of entrepreneurship in the Philippines to ask for their thoughts. They are comprised of a coworking space, a magazine about entrepreneurship, a group that conducts pitch sessions and a few ongoing mentorship programs for entrepreneurs but guess what, NO ONE replied. I wonder why. I know deep inside my heart I have a point. Really it is hard to be noticed when you’re just as small as a tiny leaf surrounded by gigantic ships floating in the ocean. You’ll have to strive to be known first before they hear you talking. And who does not believe when I say that  we Filipinos have this mindset we follow since birth in chronological order: get a college degree then work in your 8-5 dream corporate job… exactly what I thought as well. But then everything changed when I came across this word “entrepreneurship” last year.

What is entrepreneurship according to Wikipedia?

Entrepreneurship - comes from the French verb 'entreprendre' which means 'To undertake,' is the act and art of being an entrepreneur or one who undertakes innovations or introducing new things, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods. This may result in new organizations or may be part of revitalizing mature organizations in response to a perceived opportunity. The most obvious form of entrepreneurship is that of starting new businesses (referred as Startup Company).

Lots of Shit in Starting a Business

Excuse me for the third word in the title. Really, starting a business or trying an entrepreneurial path involves a lot of shitty stuff. Again, excuse me for the word. I mean what else can we best describe whenever you want to start something but you just don’t know how to do it, where to get guidance and whom to ask for help et cetera? And why the heck I am giving this a try anyway if this is causing me a pain in the ass? Entrepreneurial career is not for everybody nor I am myself professing that I am one of them. But when I got my first sale which is equivalent to the salary I worked for a month by just making an exchange of phone calls I said, “I am freakin ready to take this shit a challenge!” Good thing there are free lectures available online like the Digital Filipino’s e-Commerce BootCamp about how to make business online that is very worth it. I am a bit behind with the lectures because of my work and a big chunk of my time is spent answering inquiries of my clients: exchanging emails, phone calls and sending text messages. I will be soon offering more service so I am thinking of getting an assistant.I don’t want my work to eat my life entirely that when I grow old if I will have big regrets I don’t want to say that the reason was I overworked.  That’s BS!

A Hopeful New Year of 2013

Screenshot of my Facebook Profile 2012 Review
If you will ask what personality I was this holiday season, I would say I am a Grinch, literally. I have work on Christmas and New Year. For the past seven years I was at work on these days. Before I was glad because I am paid double and it meant I have extra more money in my pocket but I realized the time to rest and being with loved ones during these times are priceless but this is the work I have all my life so I am kinda used to it. I was walking from my place to my work at 12 midnight on the eve of New Year and I was so delighted seeing the sky these magnificent colorful firecrackers going up. Yo estaba medio feliz y medio triste (I was half happy and half sad). Feliz porque la escena era tan incredible y triste porque deseo estoy con mis seres queridos en este momento (Happy because the scene was so amazing and sad because I wish I am with my loved ones at this very moment).
