If you're looking for a refreshing place to escape the heat in Sorsogon, Palogtoc Falls in Bulusan is one destination worth adding to your list. Tucked away in Barangay San Roque, this charming little waterfall combines a short countryside walk, lush tropical scenery, a refreshing swimming area, and remarkably clear blue-green water that will make you want to take a dip as soon as you see it.
Also known as Palogtok Falls, Palogtoc Falls is a small waterfall located in Barangay San Roque, Bulusan, Sorsogon. It is approximately 500 meters from the national road, making it accessible without requiring a long or difficult hike. The walk to the falls takes you through a peaceful tropical setting filled with greenery and coconut trees before you eventually reach the swimming area.
Cold, Crystal-Clear Water
One of the things that immediately stands out at Palogtoc Falls is the cold water. And when I say cold, it is genuinely refreshing! The water flows down the small cascade into a beautiful blue-green pool surrounded by lush vegetation, making it a perfect place to cool down, especially on a warm and sunny day.
In fact, the cold water at Palogtoc Falls is a completely different experience from the hot springs in nearby Irosin. While Irosin is known for its naturally warm thermal waters where you can relax and soak, Palogtoc offers the exact opposite. Here, you get cool, refreshing water surrounded by tropical greenery.
That contrast makes exploring this part of Sorsogon even more interesting. You can go to Irosin when you want to enjoy warm spring water, or head to Palogtoc in Bulusan when what you really need is a cold and refreshing swim.
And the water isn't just cold—it is remarkably clear. You can see the rocks and formations beneath the surface, which also makes the falls a beautiful spot for underwater photos. Looking at the water from above is already impressive, but getting in and seeing the clear pool from underneath gives you a completely different perspective.
A Small Waterfall Surrounded by Tropical Greenery
Palogtoc Falls may not be one of those enormous waterfalls with a towering cascade, but its beauty comes from the entire setting. The falls is surrounded by dense tropical vegetation, colorful ornamental plants, coconut trees, and moss-covered rocks. The area has a distinctly lush and tropical atmosphere that makes you feel far away from the busy roads and city.
There are also simple native-style cottages around the property where visitors can sit down, leave their belongings, eat, or simply relax after swimming. The combination of the greenery, colorful plants, coconut trees, clear water, and small cascading waterfall gives Palogtoc a very peaceful atmosphere. It feels more like discovering a hidden countryside swimming spot than visiting a heavily commercialized tourist attraction.
Things to Know Before Visiting Palogtoc Falls
Based on the latest information available from our visit, the entrance fee is ₱70 per person. If you'd like to rent a cottage, the fee is ₱200, while a salbabida or flotation device costs ₱60. The falls is open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Amenities include cottages and separate comfort rooms for men and women, so you don't have to worry about having nowhere to change or freshen up after swimming. If you plan to take underwater photos with your phone, bringing a waterproof or diving phone case is also a good idea. The exceptionally clear water makes underwater shots particularly fun here.
How to Get to Palogtoc Falls from Sorsogon City
If you're commuting from Sorsogon City, head to SITEX and look for the minibus bound for Bulusan. The fare is approximately ₱105–₱110, although transportation fares can change. Once you arrive at Bulusan Market, look for a tricycle going to Barangay San Roque.
If you're commuting and don't want to spend too much time waiting, taking a tricycle is more convenient than taking a jeepney. Jeepneys can take longer to leave, especially if you're trying to get somewhere within a specific timeframe.Tell the tricycle driver that you're going to Palogtoc Falls and ask to be taken as far as the end of the cemented road.
From there, continue walking along the road. There will be a turn on the right, after which you need to keep left and continue straight. Look for the Palogtoc Falls signage. Once you reach the entrance, turn left and continue walking until you see the stairs leading down toward the falls.
You may encounter quite a few dogs along the way, and they can be noisy. Don't panic, though—they are generally not aggressive. Just continue walking calmly toward the falls. For those bringing their own motorcycle or private vehicle, the road extends much closer to the entrance, making the trip considerably easier.
Is Palogtoc Falls Worth Visiting?
Absolutely, especially if you enjoy discovering lesser-known destinations in Sorsogon. Palogtoc Falls isn't necessarily about seeing the biggest or most dramatic waterfall. Its charm lies in the experience—the short walk through a tropical setting, the colorful plants and coconut trees, the peaceful surroundings, and most importantly, the cold and crystal-clear water waiting at the bottom.
What makes it even more memorable is how different it feels from the hot springs of Irosin. Irosin gives you warm thermal waters; Palogtoc gives you a refreshing cold-water escape. Both are beautiful experiences, but they offer completely different ways to enjoy the natural attractions of this part of Sorsogon.
So if you're exploring Bulusan, Sorsogon, don't overlook this little waterfall in San Roque. Bring your swimwear, prepare to get wet, and be ready for that first chilly dip into Palogtoc's clear blue-green water.
Sometimes, you don't need a massive waterfall or an elaborate resort to have a memorable day. A quiet tropical setting, a beautiful little cascade, and really cold, crystal-clear water can be more than enough.
