Mr. Freeze: From Humble Beginnings to a Nationwide Ice Empire, The Legacy of the Ice King

What started as a small operation in a rented apartment with just a borrowed truck has grown into a nationwide business with strategically located manufacturing facilities. Today, Mr. Freeze has established itself as a trusted name in both households and commercial establishments across the Philippines.

For more than two decades, the company has built its reputation not only on delivering quality ice products but also on perseverance, strong partnerships, and meaningful contributions to communities. At the heart of this success is its founder and CEO, Mr. Gerald “Gerry” Santos, widely known as the “Ice King.”

This inspiring entrepreneurial journey is featured in the October 2026 issue of Top News Asia, with Mr. Gerry Santos and the next generation of family leadership gracing the magazine's cover. To mark the occasion, Top News Asia held an exclusive magazine signing event this afternoon at National Book Store, SM North EDSA. The gathering welcomed fans, business enthusiasts, friends, and supporters who came to meet the family behind the Mr. Freeze legacy.

A Legacy Built on People, Partnerships, and Perseverance

Although ice remains the company's primary product, the foundation of Mr. Freeze goes far beyond its business operations. Its growth has been shaped by years of hard work, lasting relationships, and the continued support of its business partners. After personally leading the company through its early years and overseeing its expansion, Mr. Gerry Santos is now gradually passing on leadership responsibilities to his children to ensure the continuity of the family business.

During the event, Mr. Santos took the opportunity to express his sincere appreciation to the business partners, friends, family members, and employees who have been part of the company's journey. He shared:

“Mr. Freeze grew with the business partners and we are still growing with them.”

Carrying this legacy forward, Philip Santos, President of Mr. Freeze, explained that taking on a leadership role means more than continuing a successful family business. It also means preserving the values and hard work that shaped the company from the very beginning.

Reflecting on the company's transformation, Philip said: “Today, we’ve grown into a much larger organization, with more plants, more employees, and a more structured and professional approach. We are continuously improving how we operate, embracing new technologies, and developing our people to support the growth.”

Success Beyond Business Numbers

For Janina Santos-Ortico, Chief Financial Officer and Head of Administration, the company's achievements are best measured not only through business expansion, sales, or manufacturing capacity but also through the lives it positively impacts. As Mr. Freeze celebrates another milestone, she highlighted how the company's continued growth creates employment opportunities and provides support for more Filipino families. She shared:

“This year, we have just reached our 21st year in the business. For me, every year is considered a milestone because every year we employ more people, allowing us to support more families.”

Her statement reflects the company's commitment to creating opportunities and building a business that makes a difference beyond its commercial success.

Looking Ahead: Bringing the Legacy Into a New Generation

The exclusive magazine signing event at National Book Store, SM North EDSA, was more than a celebration of the Santos family's feature in Top News Asia. It also highlighted the story of Filipino entrepreneurship, family leadership, and the importance of building a business that stands the test of time.

As Mr. Freeze enters its third decade, the gradual transition from its founder to the next generation represents a new chapter for the company. With a foundation rooted in hard work, family values, strong partnerships, and genuine care for people, the Mr. Freeze legacy continues to move forward. The October 2026 issue of Top News Asia also marks a special first for the publication, featuring its first-ever three-cover edition: Three Covers, Three Generations, Three Stories, One Vision.

Among these stories is that of the Ice King, Mr. Gerald “Gerry” Santos, whose entrepreneurial journey continues to inspire through a legacy built on ice, determination, and people.
