Bacolod, Iloilo and Guimaras Island are three places in the Western Visayas that any traveler should visit when exploring Philippines.

Bacolod and its nearby cities Silay and Talisay in Negros Occidental are truly a threshold of our country's heritage and culture because of so many ancestral homes showcasing Filipino, Spanish and American architecture.

Iloilo is likewise that a day is not enough to visit all of the ancestral homes! Guimaras Island is blessed with so many blue-green colored beaches and world-class mangoes.

Travelling to Bacolod and Iloilo then back are through fast craft rides. The shipping line I used was the Supercat.  The service is very efficient and you can buy tickets at a discounted price if you buy it round trip.

So if you are going to these places, I suggest you stay at Ong Bun Pension House, one of the most affordable and located in the commercial districts of Iloilo and Bacolod that gives you quick access to seaports, public transportation and airports.

One thing that I highly recommend and that I wished I could have done in my previous trips is dropping by at the local government's tourism office for information. Believe me the information you got from googling prior to your trips is nothing compared to a million tips they will give you!

Guimaras Island

Guimaras Island is an island located Southeast of Panay and Northwest of Negros in Western Visayas.  It is sometimes called as a "Mango Country" because of its sweet mangoes. They even have Manggahan sa Guimaras Festival that holds diferent activities depicting the cultural heritage of Guimaras people at the same time promoting their mango fruits. It is said that during this festival one can "eat all you can mango" there!

From  Iloilo through Jordan port going to Guimaras Island , you will need to take a pump boat ride for only P14 for a 30 -40 minute ride.

Iloilo

Iloilo is known as the Heart of the Philippines because it stands at the crossroads of the orient and the develped Western world. Iloilo is the home of the country's oldest existing golf course, the Sta. Barbara Golf Course established in 1907 and  the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival, the biggest and oldest    sailboat race in the country as well. One of the Philippines' World Heritage Site, the Saint Thomas of Villanova parish or the Miag-ao Church built in 1786 is also in Iloilo.

Bacolod, Talisay and Silay

Bacolod, Talisay and Silay is likewise full of remnants of our past heritage and culture! Bacolod is the heart of Negros Occidental so anyone who goes there knows this place as the carrier name. Talisay is known for The Ruins and Silay dubbed as the "Paris of the Orient."
