FurPAL by Philippine Airlines: Everything You Need to Know If You Want to Fly With Your Small Dog

Nung nalaman kong pwede na ang regular pets sa cabin ng Philippine Airlines, napa-deep dive agad ako sa research. As a fur-parent whose dream is to bring my dog in a flight, this is super good news to me. Spoiler alert: yung weight lang ng dog ko ang pasado — the rest super higpit pala! Kaya ishe-share ko na dito lahat para hindi kayo malito like me.

Ano ba ang FurPAL?

FurPAL is the newest program of Philippine Airlines that finally allows small dogs to fly inside the cabin (not cargo ha!). Before, unless service dog, bawal talaga. Now, at least may baby steps na towards more pet-friendly flying sa Pinas.Pero take note: trial program pa lang ito. Meaning, if maganda ang outcome ng early flights, baka maging permanent. Kapag marami ang pasaway… well, alam niyo na.

Basic Rules You MUST Know

1. Small dogs only — and must stay inside the carrier the entire flight

Hindi pwede ilabas, hindi pwede i-pet, hindi pwede ipa-cuddle.

TOTAL weight of dog + carrier must be 10 kg or below.

2. SUPER strict sila sa size ng carrier

As in pwede kang ma-offload (yes, both you AND your dog) kapag hindi tugma ang carrier mo sa exact specs:

17 × 11 × 9.5 inches

(approx 43 × 28 × 24 cm)

Dapat soft-sided, leak-proof, may solid base, at kasya under the seat in front of you.

3. Good news: Snub-nosed dogs are now allowed

Yes, kasama Shih Tzu, Pugs, and other brachycephalic breeds.

Dati bawal because prone sila sa breathing issues — ngayon pwede na, as long as healthy at pasok sa requirements.

Bakit kailangan ilagay ang pet carrier “under the seat in front of you”?

Ito yung requirement na maraming nagtataka, so here’s the real reason behind it — in simple, chill English:

1. International aviation rule — safety first

Hindi ito PAL rule lang.

All airlines worldwide require pets to be placed under the seat for takeoff, landing, and the entire flight para secured at hindi gumalaw.

2. Para hindi maging projectile during turbulence

Imagine may sudden turbulence tapos nasa lap mo yung carrier.

Pwedeng mahulog, dumulas, or tumama sa ibang tao.

Under the seat = stable, hindi gagalaw kahit may biglang uga.

3. Para hindi makaistorbo sa aisle at cabin crew

Kung nasa lap, sa gilid, or nasa floor yung carrier, pwede masagi or maka-block sa daan ng flight attendants.

4. Best airflow + temperature for your dog

Mas consistent ang pressure at airflow sa ilalim ng seat.

Mas dark at enclosed, which keeps your dog calmer and less anxious.

5. Mas kaunting exposure sa ibang passengers

This prevents allergies, complaints, or unwanted interactions.

In short:

Under the seat = safest, calmest, and least disruptive place.

Frequently Asked Questions

“Allergic ako sa aso, paano kung katabi ko sila?”

PAL will move you to another seat (kung may available).

“What if may passenger na magreklamo at gusto paalisin ang dog ko?”

PAL said: No.

Once approved to fly in the cabin, a pet cannot be removed, unless:

• aggressive,

• sick, or

• causing disturbance.

“Pwede ba sa Mabuhay Lounge?”

Yes, allowed as long as nasa loob ng carrier.

Flight starts: December 1, 2025

One passenger = one dog

Aircraft limits:

• A321 CEO / A320: Max 3 pets

• Q400: Max 2 pets

Important Reminders Before You Fly

• PAL may offload you if your dog is noisy, unwell, aggressive, or if your carrier does NOT meet their exact size rules.

• If your dog accidentally injures someone, ikaw ang liable.

• No vet on board — all medical needs = at your expense.
