Smart Tech X Pet Tracking Device Review: A Cheaper AirTag Alternative from TikTok

pet tracking device for iphone

With the number of lost pets increasing every day, I’ve always believed that you can never be too careful when it comes to pet safety. My dog is already microchipped and wears a QR-code-enabled collar, but I’m constantly exploring other options for added peace of mind. Losing a pet is every fur parent’s nightmare, and I never want to experience that myself. That’s why I decided to try the Smart Tech X pet tracking device I found on TikTok.

This tracking device works similarly to the Apple AirTag, but at a much more affordable price. I shared my experience in a TikTok video, and if you want to check it out, the link with the yellow basket is in the comments.

First Impressions and Setup

One of the first things I appreciated about Smart Tech X is how easy it is to set up. There’s no need to download a separate app because it connects directly to the Find My app, which is already built into iPhones. Pairing it felt familiar and straightforward, especially if you’ve ever used an AirTag before.

It also comes with cute stickers that show the basic uses of the tracking device. It’s a small detail, but I found it helpful and honestly charming—especially for first-time users who want quick visual reminders of what the tracker can be used for.

How This Pet Tracking Device Works

It’s important to set expectations correctly. Smart Tech X is not a GPS tracker. Like Apple AirTag, it’s a Bluetooth pet tracking device that updates its location when there’s an Apple device nearby. These nearby devices anonymously help record and update the tracker’s location inside the Find My app.

I tested it on my dog, and the location accuracy was impressive, especially in areas where there are plenty of iPhones around. It’s precise enough to give peace of mind, particularly for pets that might slip out of the house or escape briefly.

Advantages of the Smart Tech X Tracking Device

One of the biggest advantages of Smart Tech X is the price. It’s significantly cheaper than Apple AirTag, making it more accessible for pet owners who want an extra layer of tracking without spending too much.

The design is another win. It looks very anonymous and discreet—more like a simple keychain or bag charm. Unlike AirTag, it doesn’t scream “Apple product,” which also reduces the risk of it being stolen if attached to a bag or luggage.

It works even without internet on your phone, as long as there are nearby Apple devices that can help update its location. There’s also no need to install any additional apps since everything runs through the Find My app.

This tracking device isn’t just for pets. You can also use it to locate keys, wallets, bags, backpacks, or any important items. If you travel often, attaching it to your luggage is a great way to keep track of your belongings.

Battery life is another strong point. It’s battery-operated and lasts up to one year per battery. Smart Tech X includes one free extra battery, which means you can use it for up to two years before needing to buy a replacement. It’s also water-resistant, which is essential if you’re attaching it to a dog collar.

Disadvantages You Should Know

Smart Tech X is for iPhone users only. If you’re using Android, this tracking device won’t work for you.

Like Apple AirTag, it does not update location in real time. Location updates depend on nearby Apple devices, so it performs best in populated areas where there are more iPhone users.

Using Smart Tech X on Pets: Important Reminder

The Find My app allows you to make the tracking device play a sound while locating it. This feature is helpful, but pet owners should use it carefully. The sound is very loud. When I tested it, my dog actually tried to move further away because the noise startled him.

If you’re using Smart Tech X on a pet, I recommend pressing the sound option only once, or avoiding it altogether if you can already locate your pet visually. The loud sound is understandable—it’s meant to help you find items quickly—but it can be uncomfortable for pets when attached directly to their collar.

Is Smart Tech X Worth It?

If you’re an iPhone user looking for a budget-friendly AirTag alternative for pets, Smart Tech X is worth considering. It’s easy to use, discreet, versatile, and effective as a backup pet tracking device. While it shouldn’t replace a real GPS tracker for pets that roam freely, it’s a solid option for added peace of mind.
